Abstract Several optimizing solutions have recently been developed, and show various operational and economic improvements in designed verification studies. This paper focuses on electrical loss by reactive power profile from wind turbines and proposes a loss reduction method that considers realistic cable components. By considering those disregarded factors, previous reactive power allocation could gain efficiency without an additional complementary module. Those applications have focused on a stabilized condition for confirming the maximum effect that may be derived from a full-extraction state. In the case of a large-scale wind farm, however, a physical area with realistic environmental variation should be considered to derive acceptable case studies. In this paper, we modified a reactive power allocation strategy that is based on the proportional technique with the system components of a wind farm structure to utilize it with various practical options. Each analysis proceeded to check feasibility in terms of loss reduction with a comparative generic distribution method. The simulation was composed based on electromagnetic transients using the DC (EMTDC) software tool to perform electrical loss estimation and to verify the effectiveness of this strategy.
