Abstract These days a suction pile is one of the common options for offshore wind turbine foundations. Offshore wind turbines are mainly affected by lateral loads. Therefore lateral displacement analysis of laterally loaded suction pile is necessary to design a suction pile. In general, FEM is used for lateral load analysis but it requires relatively long time. Thus if response of a suction pile for lateral loads can be obtained in the closed form solution, design of a suction pile foundation can be conducted easily. In this work, the response of laterally loaded suction pile is suggested in the closed form solution. The closed form solution is obtained as a function of slenderness ratio and it is compared with FEM result. The difference between the closed form solution and the FEM result is 10.6% in average. However, the error in specific slenderness ratio range is increased up to 27%.
